Biography
Michael Smigocki, CPA has been a forensic accountant and expert witness in a multitude of complex financial litigation matters for over 35 years, having performed investigations of hundreds of companies. He is the founder of the forensic accounting and consulting firm of Federal Strategies Group and was a former Managing Director with American Express, who had acquired the CPA firm he co-founded. He is a graduate of the University of Maryland.
As a former athlete, his passion has always been sports, especially baseball. He utilized his year of playing experience, as well as having become a student of the game, and became a coach of both travel baseball and women’s fastpitch softabll teams. He coached travel teams for Montgomery Village, MD, Gaithersburg American Legion Post 104, and the MD Summer Collegiate Wooden Bat League. He was also the Head Coach of the Women’s Collegiate Softball Team at Montgomery College.
Mike was a former marathon runner but had to give up his love of running when knee troubles led to replacement surgery. Nowadays, when he is not working, coaching, or writing, he is an avid hiker, kayaker, fisherman, crabber, wannabe gourmet chef, and a lifelong fan of University of Maryland athletics. In fact, a portion of each book sold is being donated to the Smigocki Family Endowed Scholarship Fund to provide scholarship opportunities to accounting majors at the University of Maryland.
